Alt really changed the way I look at this blog and the way I look at myself as a blogger. I realized that this here, what you're reading, this is what I LOVE to do. I love to come up with ideas, share them and hopefully inspire someone a thousand miles away to make something with her hands. And if I can make money doing that, by collaborating with brands that I love and use anyway, then this thing that I love can grow. And I can spend more time making and sharing. I can bring on other creative souls to help me. And this thing that I love can grow, grow, grow.
A switch went off in my brain last week. Blogging isn't my hobby any more. It's my career. When Milo starts kindergarten this Fall, I don't want to get some crappy part-time job to help pay off the credit cards and start saving for a house. I want to build something awesome, doing what I love to do. I already have the foundation.
Here are five quotes from the speakers at Alt that helped me make that shift:
Each of these people said something that resonated with me. What it all boils down to is this: Formulate a plan. Figure out the most efficient and effective ways to make that plan happen. Self-evaluate and find the right tools and the right people to help you get over your own speed bumps. Then, most importantly, have the guts to dive in and embrace the butterflies in your belly!

Marigold! It was lovely to meet you at Alt. So many of these are the same things that resonated with me, too. I feel like I need that quote from Stefan on the wall of my office -- or maybe tattooed on my arm. He's totally transformed my ideas of risk.
