Eat Make Grow Thursday #5

Welcome to this week's Eat Make Grow Blog Hop where you share what you have been eating with your family, growing in your garden or making with all your creative impulses. Eat Make Grow is a collective link party that is shared across three blogs and runs every Thursday-Tuesday. Whichever blog that you choose to link up your post, it will show up on all three sites! Eat Make Grow is a way to share with many people posts about your domestic doings, whether that’s growing veggies, hosting parties, sewing, mixing up cleaning supplies, or trying out a new recipe. We want to learn about it! Every week, we will feature the most popular link, and one chosen by the the host. This week, your host is Marigold.

Lego Storage and Organization

My boys started getting into Legos about a year ago. In that time, we have accumulated a massive amount of Legos. To be fair, we already had a huge collection because my husband was a Lego freak when he was a kid and so we have boxes and boxes of "vintage" sets. But since the boys now share in his obsession, the Legos have multiplied and taken over. Every gifting occasion, every Responsibility Chart prize, every what-should-we-do-this-weekend-I-know-let's-go-to-the-Lego-Store moment has led to Legos breeding like bunnies in the springtime. This weekend our project was to try to get the Legos under control.

Robot Gift Wrap

I wanted to share this fun, easy gift wrapping project I did over the weekend. I had some silver tissue paper and silver fabric ribbon. When I tied  the bow, I thought it looked like a robot in a bow tie, so I took a bit of brightly colored cardstock and a black Sharpie and ended up with this guy.

Eat Make Grow Thursday #3

Yipee, it's Thursday again! Now that we've gotten all our introductions out of the way, it's my (Miranda's) turn to host the hop. I had such fun reading all of your posts: from food preservation to adorable toddler-suspenders, it was tough to choose my favorites! This week has been a busy week in my kitchen, as well. I foraged and put up over 15 pounds of mini plums! That was a heck of a lot of cutting out seeds, but i'll be happily munching on jam this Winter. Foy, Marigold and myself can't wait to see what ideas you have for us this week, for the kitchen, craft room or garden.

T-shirt Redux!

I bought this t-shirt at a Jedidiah booth sale last summer. I would put it on, look at myself in the mirror, and then take it off and choose something else with a more flattering fit. I did this many, many times. Because I thought it would magically look better on it's own, I suppose. I love the goofy lion print, but the crew neck and boxy cut made my already broad shoulders look even more square.

So today I put it on again, then took it off and finally decided that I needed to chop it up and reshape it to fit my figure. It took all of ten minutes, and I am much happier with it! I just cut the crew neck into a wider boat neck and left the edge raw. Then, because it is such a long shirt, I ruched up the sides a bit. I then folded the sleeves three times and ruched those up, too. It's much more feminine and I am actually wearing it!

Perler Bead Necklace and some Toy Jewelry Pinspiration

One of my favorite pieces of jewelry that I have made are the Lego stud earrings I posted back in April. They are so simple and fun, and I love that they are made from Legos!. So I started looking around my house and I got to thinking about the big tub of Perler beads in the boys craft stash. You know Perler beads-they're those fusible beads that you put on a peg board and then iron together to make keychains that say "MOM" and stuff.
Anyway, After some false starts attempting to make earrings, I came up with this super simple necklace made from yellow and white Perler beads and some fine metal chain.
