This is a quick little project I whipped out for Huck. He needed a snack sack for summer school. It is a little smaller than a regular lunch sack-just big enough for a juice box,a pack of animal crackers and a clementine. It has a little strap on the back (that matches the lining) that he can either hold or sling over his shoulder. If I did it again, I'd probably add a stiff rectangle of something (heavy interfacing? plastic? something washable.) to the bottom of the sack so that it would hold it's shape better when it is picked up and loaded with yummies.

That is so cute!! My daughter would love to tote around something like that.
ReplyDeleteThat is adorable! Gives me yet another reason to want a sewing machine that does embroidery like that.
ReplyDeleteFantastic. I love that this is just a quick little project for you! It would be a much larger project for me unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I actually don't have a fancy embroidering machine. I use an old, cheap Brother. It's a very basic machine-less than $100 new. To do the name, I printed it onto paper in a font I liked, then traced it onto the fabric using water-soluble marking pen. Then I used one of the embroidery stitches and ever so sloooooowly traced the letters. It's a little wonky, but I like that look.
ReplyDeleteThis snack sack is so cute! I'm going to make some for the goodie bags for my sons 5th bday. Cute fabric too!
ReplyDeleteAllegra-I picked up the fabric at Jenny's (Warner & Magnolia in FV) in the bargain stacks. $1.75/yard and there was a lot of it.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this! Thanks for posting it. I'm inspired to make one for my son, who'll need one for kindergarten.
ReplyDeleteA suggestion for the bottom: plastic needlepoint canvas. It's rather stiff but still washable.
Are you going to be creating a tutorial for this? I love coming to your blog for inspiration!! You are SO talented!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Katie! Yes, I will definitely do a tute on this, but I need to do a couple of design modifications first. Since we've been using it regularly I have noticed things need fixing. It's a bit too floppy, and as cute as the single strap is, I'm not crazy about the way it slings over the arm, as it tends to slip off the shoulder too much. But I'm pretty sure I know what corrections to make. I'm finishing up another project right now and this will be my next project. I want to get it up by late summer, at latest, so crafty moms will have enough time to make it before school starts :)
